ACADEMIC LIAISON COMMITTEE
 Mission: The committee encourages involvement by the academic community at area universities and secondary schools in the activities of the GSH and SEG. The committee judges entries in the Science Fair of Houston and participates in the SEG Academic Liaison Committee.

ADVISORY COMMITTEE
 Mission: An ad hoc committee under the president to advise and guide the Society.

ANNUAL MEETING COMMITTEE
 Mission: A meeting of the society is held during the third week of May each year to install the newly elected officers. Traditionally, this meeting is accompanied by a barbeque dinner and social gathering so that the new officers can meet the members they serve.

AWARDS BANQUET COMMITTEE
 Mission: This event is held each year to honor the SEG members of 25 and 50 years. Honorary and Life Memberships for selected GSH members are also honored at this elegant dinner. The SEG President is the speaker for this event and assists with the presentations of awards. Outgoing GSH officers and chairpersons are recognized at this time.

COMPANY CONTACTS COMMITTEE
 Mission: The function of the committee is to provide a means of improving communication with GSH members. A "Designated GSH Representative" is appointed at all companies employing five or more GSH Members. Each member of the committee is assigned several such representatives and by means of regular communication is able to assure GSH responsiveness to the interests of its members and to improve attendance at Society functions. CONTINUING EDUCATION COMMITTEE
 Mission: The function of the committee is to organize low cost courses and symposia to help meet the educational needs of the membership. The committee also publicizes the continuing education courses of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) and the courses of other SEG sections.

CORPORATE RELATIONS COMMITTEE
 Mission: This committee is under the president, chaired by the past president and includes another most available past president and whoever else can contribute to the process. The committee conducts the annual corporate solicitation of funds from industry to be used in educational and/or technical endeavors.

DIRECTORY COMMITTEE
 Mission: The Directory Committee is responsible for publishing the Membership Directory jointly with the Houston Geological Society. Duties include soliciting advertisments, choosing a publisher and layout.

ELECTRONIC PUBLISHING COMMITTEE
 Mission: The Electronic Publishing Committee is responsible for maintaining the GSH website and other electronic publishing activities such as providing on-line archives of the GSH newsletter.

EMPLOYMENT REFERRAL COMMITTEE
 Mission: The purpose of the committee is to act as a liaison between employers and potential employees in the various branches of the geophysical industry. The service provided by this committee is free to both employers and employees. The only restriction for potential employees is that they be members in good standing in the GSH. The service acts as as clearing house where employers can request individuals with specific skills and receive a confidential service in the

FINANCE COMMITTEE
 Mission: The committee is composed of the treasurer, the past treasurer and the prior past treasurer. The purpose of the committee is to offer assistance to the current treasurer in running the financial affairs of the society and to provide continuity of records for tax purposes and in the preparation of the annual budget. The committee also assists the GSH vice presidents in the financial planning and reporting of their committees' activities.

GOLF TOURNAMENT COMMITTEE
 Mission: The business of the Golf Committee is to direct the annual Bob Martin GSH Tournament. The event has been conducted at Kingwood Country Club for the past several years. Working committee members come from all phases of the geophysical industry, both from service companies and oil companies. The service companies within our industry have, in the past, been very generous in sponsoring this annual event.

GSH AUXILIARY COMMITTEE
 Mission: The chairperson is appointed by the President of GSH Auxiliary to act as liaison between GSH Auxiliary and GSH. Announcements of coming GSH Auxiliary social events are announced in GSH newsletters and GSH social events are announced in GSH Auxiliary newsletters. Membership applications approved by GSH are forwarded to GSH Auxiliary. New member spouses and new women members are sent invitations to join GSH Auxiliary. GSH holiday dance table decorations are

GSH MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE
 Mission: The primary function of this committee is to review all completed membership applications received by GSH and to recommend election by the Board.of Directors for those applicants who meet our membership criteria. Those whose applications do not meet our membership criteria are offered the assistance of the Membership Committee in gaining election. The secondary function of this committee is the compilation of membership statistics which the GSH is require

HISTORY COMMITTEE
 Mission: The History Committee of the Geophysical Society of Houston maintains and periodically reviews and updates the written history and the activities of the Society.

INTERDISCIPLINARY COUNCIL COMMITTEE
 Mission: This committee is under the President and is made up of the President of the GSH, HGS, SPE, SPWLA, and SIPES. It will meet as needed to encourage communications between the disciplines and the Societies.

MUSEUM COMMITTEE
 Mission: The GSH has several hundred geophysical artifacts and documents, some dating back to the early '20's. It is the responsibility of the Museum Committee to conserve, catalog and display those artifacts that are of museum quality. The Committee also arranges for inter-institutional loans. If any responsible organization is interested in displaying available material on a long-term loan basis, please contact the Museum Committee.

NOMINATIONS COMMITTEE
 Mission: The Nominations Committee consisting of the President and the two most recent available past presidents prepares a slate of nominees for officers of the Society. The committee also nominates candidates for the GSH awards of Honorary and Life membership.

PUBLICITY COMMITTEE
 Mission: The Publicity Committee is responsible for press releases for the GSH and publicity for the GSH Special Events. The Committee supports any of the other GSH Committees that request publicity or public relations assistance. Additionally, the Committee is responsible for the GSH Souvenir Shop.

SALTWATER FISHING TOURNAMENT COMMITTEE
 Mission: The Bass Tournament Committee organizes an annual tournament held jointly with the Houston Geological Society (HGS) in the Spring for members and their families. A portion of the tournament fee goes to the scholarship funds of both societies. Prizes include trophies and fishing tackle with a Saturday night dinner for all participants.
