Webinar: Borehole Geophysics: Using Rock Properties, Well Logs, and all kinds of Seismic Methods - Sep 28, 30, Oct 5, 7

** Rescheduled from August to September, please note the new dates.

A Live Webinar featuring
, Dr. Robert Stewart, Past President SEG, Cullen Chair in Exploration Geophysics, Director, Allied Geophysical Lab at the University of Houston

Duration/Format: 4 half-day interactive webinar sessions, September 28 & 30, and October 5 & 7, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm Central Time (Houston, USA)

If you are new to the GSH Website, you will need to create a login ID to register and participate, thank you.

Outline: This webinar course covers the theory, methods, applications, and practice of a host of borehole (in situ) geophysical techniques including core measurement, well logging, vertical seismic profiling (VSP), distributed acoustic sensing (DAS), crosswell, and microseismic methods. Acquisition design and instruments are reviewed as are processing techniques. Examples are drawn from conventional and unconventional petroleum cases as well as underground storage, aquifers, and geothermal reservoirs. In addition, these measurements are integrated, via geostatistics, with surface seismic information to provide an extended subsurface picture. A variety of applications in the energy, geotechnical, and environmental fields are discussed. The learning opportunities are augmented with hands-on exercises.

Topics to cover include:
- Well naming, drilling basics, subsurface state
- Core, laboratory measurements, rock and fluid properties
- Well logging tools, values, and interpretation
- Borehole seismic surveying (VSP, horizontal wells, DAS)
- Microseismic monitoring
- Crosswell seismic methods
- Integration, geostatistics, machine learning
- Petroleum, water, geothermal reservoirs & subsurface storage

Learner Outcomes: Attendees of this class will gain knowledge and skills to:
-Understand drilling and well logging fundamentals
-Comprehend the principles of downhole seismic survey design, instrumentation, & logistics
-Understand basic borehole seismic processing & interpretation
-Assemble reservoir case histories using petrophysics, borehole geophysics, and surface seismic data
