GSH Special Interest Groups
Data Processing & Acquisition
This special interest group provides a forum for the discussion of seismic data acquisition and processing topics such as broadband acquisition technologies, seismic data migration and inversion, etc. An expert on a particular topic normally speaks to the group and responds to questions at a monthly late afternoon meeting. Those who would like to make a presentation to the SIG should contact a SIG chairperson.
Chairperson: Wilson Ibanez - [email protected]
Special Interest Group was formed in October of 2002. Meetings are held
at different local venues, with one or more speakers in an evening

The GSH Potential Fields Group promotes the use and understanding of
potential fields data through its bi-monthly dinner meetings, featuring
extended presentations of relevant case history studies as well as new
and innovative techniques in data acquisition, processing and
interpretation. Many of the group's members are also members of other geological and
geophysical societies such as HGS, AAPG, and SEG. Their
participation in these organizations effectively integrates the use of
potential fields data with petroleum and minerals exploration and, in
turn, ensures that potential fields techniques continue to evolve into
valuable tools for the exploration industries.

Data Science & Machine Learning
By establishing a data science specific Special Interest Group (SIG) we will be promoting a growing field and technology application within our industry. Data science is a disruptive technological approach and has grown into a key tool for many geoscience workflows. Every digitalization roadmap includes machine learning and data science, and this data science SIG hopes to capture a portion of that executive attention. We will aim to highlight the growing importance of data science in our industry and showcase the innovative solutions emerging from this space.

Unconventional and New Energy
The Unconventional and New Energy SIG has two objectives. First, provides a forum for discussion of any technology or workflow or case study having to do with unconventional oil and gas exploration, exploitation, and production, with an emphasis on geophysics and how it can be integrated with other disciplines such as geology and engineering. Second, it provides a forum for discussion of any type of renewable energy, including but not limited to CCUS, geothermal, hydrogen, and induced seismicity resulting from either unconventional drilling and waste water disposal or sequestration of liquified carbon dioxide.

NextGen's mission is to empower the next generation of Geophysical
Society of Houston (GSH) members; cultivate industry and community
leaders through professional development and networking; and help
meet the objectives of next generation geophysicists through hosting
events and attaining guidance and support from the GSH Board of
Directors, mentors, and members.
