Speaker: Laurent Louis, New England Research

This presentation was previously given at the ‘Best of ARMA’ session during the URTeC22 conference. It is centered around the role of the laboratory in the understanding of rock physics and rock mechanics processes, with the aim of improving subsurface models. Through a few examples, some common challenges are discussed, and a case is made for a generalization of the use of digital images in conjunction with laboratory measurements. As a bridge across measurement scales, imaging is central to addressing prediction challenges as well as upscaling problems.
The presentation will also serve as an introduction to an upcoming series of rock physics SIG talks: ‘The Digital Lab Series’. A description of the series and a list of scheduled speakers will be provided at that time.

Speaker Biography: Laurent Louis, New England Research
Laurent Louis is a principal scientist at New England Research, Inc.. He has previously held R&D roles with BP and Shell, and holds a PhD in geophysics from the University of Cergy-Pontoise (France). He specializes in rock mechanics, X-ray CT imaging and structural petrophysics.
