Seismic data sets available in the Gulf of Suez generally exhibit very poor images of the pre-salt section. The seismic waves must penetrate through a thick overburden constituted by a succession of thin layers of drastically different properties. Using legacy information available, a detailed earth model was carefully elaborated to replicate this geological scenario and various modeling experiments were conducted to simulate the issues affecting seismic quality. Based on these synthetic experiments, a list of recommendations was formulated to address these challenges.
Speaker Biography: Luis Arechiga Salinas, Schlumberger Solutions Design & Modeling
Luis Arechiga Salinas received B.S. in geosciences engineering from the Instituto Tecnologico de Ciudad Madero (Mexico) in 2011. He joined Schlumberger in 2012, working as a geophysicist for Solutions Design and Modeling (SD&M) team. He specialized in synthetic seismic modeling as well as model building and ray tracing illumination.
