Presenters: Peter Eick, In-Depth, and Dave Monk, ACTeQ

Over the past 20 years, compressive sensing has become an increasingly important tool across a wide range of industries. The ability to reconstruct dense wavefields from sparse, optimally sampled observations offers the potential to materially increase resolution or reduce data acquisition cost …. Or both !

Implementation of compressive sensing in the geophysical industry has been slowed by prolonged patent disputes. The recent resolution of these patent issues means that the industry can now move forward to exploit the potential benefits of the technique. In-Depth has partnered with ACTeQ to offer survey designs using optimal compressive sensing technology. The effectiveness of survey designs can be evaluated using mutual coherency maps available in ACTeQ’s TesserACT survey planning and optimization software.

In this presentation, Peter Eick of In-Depth, one of the inventors of the geophysical applications of compressive sensing will provide an overview of the technology including his experiences of acquisition and processing. Dave Monk (ACTeQ) will then discuss some of the potential risks and benefits of the technique.
