Meeting Location:
University of Houston
5000 Gulf Freeway, Building 4, Room 230 Innovation Center
Houston, TX 77023

Parking is free in the open parking area

This will be the inaugural event for the Data Science and Machine Learning SIG.

  • This event will aim to differentiate itself by engaging the audience through live polls, surveys, App assisted audience Q&A, give-aways, and more.
  • Attendees can expect technical content that explores the application of machine learning in geophysics.
  • Quantico will be providing lunch and beverages.

Speaker: Ben Lasscock, Energy Solutions Group

We provide an overview of new tools applying AI and machine learning methods for automating interpretation of geophysical data, including examples from seismic, well-logs and core. Software examples will be published for classifying textures in seismic data, with application to open data sets.

Speaker Biography: Ben Lasscock, Energy Solutions Group
Ben holds a Ph.D. and a B.Sc. in theoretical physics as well as a B.Sc. in physics and theoretical physics from the University of Adelaide. Before coming to geoscience, Ben worked as a portfolio manager at a large hedge fund in Australia. He has publications in the areas of high energy physics, Bayesian time series analysis and geophysics. Currently, Ben is working on developing ideas for physics-based A.I.
